The Linda Vista Hospital is a huge, old abandoned building in Los Angeles that is now used for photoshoots, movies and TV shows. It’s eerie enough as it is to walk around and explore, but when I stumbled upon this scene it was like a rush of creepy deja vu or something.
I was wandering the empty halls on one of the higher floors by myself, when I turned the corner and saw this doctor standing in this familiar scene…yes, Doctor - in the halls of an empty hospital, that I had never been in before. It would have been legitimately creepy if I knew Ryan Schude hadn’t just wrapped this photo shoot (hence the doctor’s outfit), and I wouldn’t have had such deja vu if it weren’t for this awesome scout photo that Julia Galdo shot in the same location.
Me and this photo? I was just in the right place at the right time.

This is an idea that evolved from a story about my dad and sister, eating snacks in a hospital waiting room, to…well, to the story you see here. We work well together - that Shmister and me.

So. Ed told me he had this costume, and a big huge cigar for me to smoke… and asked me if I’d be into the idea for a portrait. What?! I didn’t even have to think twice! It was just silly enough, and just weird enough for my likings. Good things happen when you combine silly and weird.
We were all busy shooting that day at the Linda Vista Hospital, but towards the end we stepped into this run down kitchen, he set up his strobe (more info on his blog), then told me to light up! The only problem was nothing to cut the end off. So like the real Reno girl I am, ripped it off with my teeth and spit it out. The shoot will go on!
There’s a couple out-takes on his blog, too.
Someone once told me I should only photograph yellow things. I kinda liked their idea…
Rosalie is lovely. A couple weekends ago a bunch of photographers got together to shoot in an abanoned hospital in Los Angeles. Rosalie was hanging out and looking pretty, and there with her husband, and fellow photographer, Ed McGowan. I was lucky to be able to grab a couple portraits of her in between all our hustlin’ of other shoots.
Ed also finally started a real good photo blog - so if you want to learn some tips and tricks and look at colorful pictures, check it out here! More pictures of Rosalie, guaranteed!
